My name is Petra Szarvas and I'm a veterinarian, currently living in Hungary.
Dogs were always part of my family's life, I grew up with them. We had a Beagle (Samu) and a Hungarian Puli (Pamacs), they taught me a lot about the behaviour and the basic needs of the dogs. After couple of years I decided to have my own dog, who I can train on my own, who would be only my responsibility, not my family's. After some hesitation and thorough research, my choice was the wonderful breed, the Border collie. What can I say, it was love at first sight.
My first dog's, Milly's arrival turned my life upside down, recreated every step of my daily routine. I wanted to know everything about dog related activities, thus I tried out some of those with her: dogshows, a lot of dog sports (dog-dancing, obedience, frisbee, agility, even SAR); but the real happiness for both of us was and still is: sheepherding. One of the most natural activity of all. Milly can be 100% herself during working with animals, it's like a fate for her and for me, as well. We've achieved several nice titles and prizes together, but the most important thing is that she's a perfect dog, with whom my life cannot be easier - she's a perfect partner in everyday life.
My second Border collie, Beta, came to my life unpredictably, as I didn't plan to keep a puppy from that litter, but I fell in love with the little version of him. He was such a character even as a puppy! I could keep on going with my plans in herding with him, and I could also evolve from learning my mistakes I made, learning from my experiences and the knowledge I gained from the years with Milly. Now he's my main assistant dog.
I kept a puppy, Meggy from Milly's last litter, because I wanted to have a new trial dog. I could have not even chosen better, as she's a real dream come true for me! She's the dog I've always wanted to have. Currently, she's my no.1 trial dog. Together we're able to reach the stars!
In 2017, our family welcomed a new member, Novel, who came all the way from France. My prior aim was, in purchasing him, to have another great trial dog. His parents are well-known trial&farm dogs, we can't wait to see how he'll turn out.
In the same year, Meggy had a litter with Ben, a wonderful trial dog, and I couldn't resist to the only pesty female from the litter, so I decided to keep her. Her name is Ellie, and she's a 100% copy of her mother. I cannot wait to see how she'll develop!
My prior aim is to breed healthy Border collies with excellent, durable, outstanding character and working ability. Dogs, who have the original BC structure which makes them suitable for work, not for shows. Border collies are working dogs, they weren't and shouldn't be bred only for their beauty - that is our main thought. Our breeding is based on quality, not quantity - thus we only make litters, which are worth to made. Only from parents who have all necessary health tests and fit into our breeding program. The futurbe owners are selected very carefully, we only give puppies to the right homes, where we think there's quality time and devotion for raising and keeping a Border collie. We give a lot of help to all of our owners, we raise and socialize the puppies properly, if any problem occurs, the owners can rely on us. We'd like to follow every puppies' life, thus we're in close contact with every owner, we organise a lot of programs together, as much as we can.
After so many years of being involved in the dogworld, our thoughts of having our own farm were getting stronger. The farm project became real in the year of 2012, close to our hometown. Now we give a possibility for other dog owners to do herding trainings with any kind of dogs, on different levels in herding. Beside this, we have a full and modern agility course for the agility-lovers. We hold some dog events, like herding trials, both agility and herding seminars, kennel and club meetings, herding training weekends, herding and agility camps - all you can imagine! All this can be found in a beautiful, quiet place next to the fields and forest, approx. 90 kms from Budapest. Our farm has a FB site, where all news and photos can be seen: Szarvas Tanya.
If you have any questions about our kennel, about the breed or about our farm services, don't hesitate and contact us any time! :)
